This book considers all aspects of the work undertaken at Hucknall in support of the flight testing of Rolls-Royce engines in a vast variety of aircraft types. It was clear from past experience that while aircraft manufacturers were doubtless skilled in making aeroplanes, they had little or no understanding of the complexities of installing high powered aero engines which they treated like any other component bolted onto the airframe.  Rolls-Royce became adept at eliminating avoidable reliability issues and built up an impressive air force of aircraft operating from the airfield.
